The "Community Chest" fund helps the participation of community groups in the Broads & Rivers LEADER+ area by providing a simple application process for small grants. The Community Chest is managed by Norfolk Rural Community Council on behalf of the Broads & Rivers Local Action Group. The Community Chest supports local communities in developing projects that improve the local environment and benefit the local economy by encouraging sustainable tourism.

The scheme distributed over £300,000 over its five years. Community groups can apply for maximum grants of up to £5,000 or 50% of total costs (for projects costing up to £10,000).

10% comprising in-kind contributions. The kinds of projects that are eligible include:-

· Provision of information or interpretation facilities

· Organisation of cultural or heritage events

· Creation or development of recreational facilities

· Organisation of community environmental activities Applicants will need to show community involvement in the development and implementation of the project.

The benefits are targeted at the unemployed and underemployed people living in the LEADER+ area and the project will extend over the whole of the area. There is a straightforward application form. Assessment will be by an Norfolk Rural Community Council panel which will include LEADER+ Local Action Group members.
